MiniMag Credit Card Reader QuickStart
This document provides quick setup instructions for the IDTech MiniMag© magnetic stripe reader.  For the complete list of features, functions, and setup instructions of this product, please review the User Guide located here.

This unit is, by default, configured for 3-track credit card processing.  If the credit card carriers will accept 2-track processing, or 3-track processing is causing any errors, follow the steps in this document to configure the reader for 2-track processing.
 
Keystroke commands to be sent to the unit are illustrated in bold text.  When sending commands to the unit, be sure to type no faster than 2 keystrokes per second.  Commands are always followed by <Enter>.
 
 
QuickStart Setup - MiniMag Setup Program
 
If the MiniMag application software is installed on the workstation being configured, there should be a shortcut in the Start Menu for the configuration program.  The configuration program is located here [by default]:
C:\Program Files\ID TECH USB Reader Setup\IdtUsbKbSetup.exe
  1. Before beginning the setup, create and save a text document in Notepad containing the following 2 lines:

              /e/d/fp 3
              END

     
  2. Execute the setup program above which will display:
     
    MiniMag Setup Screen
     
  3. Click the Send File button and select the file created in step 1.
     
  4. The commands will be executed and displayed on the screen.  The reader will beep to signify a successful configuration.
If any errors are displayed on the screen, take appropriate steps to correct.
 
 
QuickStart Setup - Notepad

If the configuration program has not been installed, the following steps may be taken to configure the MiniMag reader.  These steps are illustrated in the MiniMag User Guide.
  1. Open Notepad or the configuration program on the PC where the MiniMag reader is attached.
     
  2. Execute the command  /e/d/fo  to display the current settings.
     
  3. To set the reader for tracks 1 and 2 only, execute the command  /e/d/fp<space>3
     
  4. To set the reader for a null separator character, execute the command  /e/d/fq<space>\nul
     
  5. Repeat step 2 to verify your changes.
